51,000 visitors to the Floriade Cable Lift

More than 51,000 visitors have enjoyed a ride in the Floriade cable cars over the past months. This figure far exceeds the expected number of 20,000 visitors. School classes, organised coach trips, company outings and thousands of cyclists all found their way to the Floriade. Last Sunday offered the final opportunity to view the landscaping of the Floriade park from the cable lift, and with almost 2000 visitors it was also the busiest day since the ride opened on 16 April. From now on the park is closed to the public until the official opening of the Floriade.

Due to the extent of the construction work, organising the traditional open day "Floriade Invites" in the park was no longer feasible, however the demand for a look at the site just kept on rising. So in April 2011 the cable car lift and the Preview Center were opened. The Preview Center was home to an extraordinary exhibition all about the Floriade. Guides from the Groei & Bloei association took visitors on a tour featuring films, models and photographs of the history of Floriade, the landscaping of the site and the highlights and activities offered by Floriade 2012. With a length of more than 1 kilometre and a height of 35 metres, the Floriade cable lift is the largest of its kind in the Netherlands. A trip in one of the cable cars offers a spectacular panoramic view of eye-catchers like Villa Flora, the Innovatoren and the theatre hill.
