Design your own space!
The GOA Groen Zuid Nederland Foundation is a partnership between gardening services and landscape design companies, arboriculturists and municipalities in the South Netherlands. GOA provides specialist training for people wanting to start a career in landscape design and arboriculture with the ultimate aim of finding them a job in a member company.
GOA Groen Zuid Nederland has a 1600 m2 entry in the Floriade Education & Innovation theme world. Everything in this exhibit revolves around the theme of ‘Choices’. The design will encourage visitors to make various choices by following a number of different routes through a maze. They will design their own space with individual garden and landscape elements, and will use this design to decide which branch of the landscape gardening sector suits them best. This is a reference to the choices that have to be made by students and, more generally, the choices we have to make time and again in our lives.
Height differences in the landscape and in the planting characterise the entry. The route ends in the pavilion which features an exhibition and a space where workshops can be organised. The pavilion is in the shape of a piece of ground that is being lifted by a spade in the soil.
What is unique about the GOA Groen entry is that the pavilion was designed as a joint collaboration between GOA Groen students and member companies. GOA Groen is already working on plans to repurpose the pavilion in line with Floriade’s ‘cradle-to-cradle’ principle.
With its entry GOA Groen wants to boost interest among young people, students and visitors in training in landscape services. Too few young people are choosing careers in this sector. It is suffering from image problems, and GOA Groen wants to cast aside its poor image and demonstrate that there is a wide range of jobs at every level.
