Cultural-historical route
A cultural-historical route brings history to life
You can see many traces of the past in the woods at Floriade 2012. 5,000-year-old burial mounds, a mediaeval rampart system, the foundations of an ancient chapel and the 19th century St. Janshoeve’s church are just some examples of the cultural heritage that can be found on the Floriade grounds.
In Floriade Park we explain the history of the park and the Venlo Region as a whole on a cultural heritage trail that winds its way past all these relics. There will also be objects and artworks placed strategically along the route that combine with the audio guides to explain the Floriade grounds’ rich history. Painting a fascinating picture of how people in the past lived with, and in, nature. The route starts at St. Jans farm in the Environment theme world; simply follow the signs. It is suitable for children.
There will be many different events with a cultural heritage theme during Floriade. Cultural heritage will continue to play a role even after Floriade is over: when Floriade Park is transformed into a high-quality green business park (Venlo Green Park), there will be several recreational and cultural heritage routes running through it.
